When everything is hyperreal, one enters the impossible by killing one’s own clone, yet the impossible can only be the impossible which is a point that Nolan clearly failed to realize. In Nolan’s world it matters whether we can or cannot distinguish “reality” from “imaginary” at the end of a film, but then again how’s that educational goal even achievable in a medium that’s immediate in and for itself?
