In filming this movie, director Mike Alexander wields masterfully the beauty of Scotland's isles, but this beauty is a paradoxical one: at once simple and majestic, plain and picturesque. This is the charm of Alba's isles - paradoxical but undeniable. Likewise undeniable is the beauty of the Scottish Gaelic language which makes up the majority of the dialogue in the movie. It's unbelievably gratifying that the Scottish government has in recent years been fighting hard to protect this still-endangered language. I would be heartbroken to see it vanish.
This is a nigh-unheard of film, but let me tell you, it is a beauty, so beautiful in fact that even though the version I saw was a very crappy pixelated version on YouTube, I was still wholly immersed and enraptured in this calming and hypnotic island tale. Regardless of which version you can get a hold of, and regardless of the quality, I recommend everyone watch this as soon as possible. We need more eyes and ears on Gaelic language films.
