科幻作品除構建宏大的世界觀外，還可激發思考與暢想。《萬神殿》可以源起科學幻想，人工智能、擴展現實、衛星環、太空電梯、戴森球，模拟世界，未來趨勢沒有力量能夠抵擋；可以反映現實圖景，資本殘酷，大國博弈，巴以沖突，鬥争似乎無休無止；可以涵蓋道義倫理，活者掃描大腦是否等同自戕，人類克隆與基因來源者的關系，上傳智慧、雲端智慧、實體智慧是否平等擁有生存權利，此間誕生的後代又尚否遵循長幼有序；可以引發哲學凝視，陰謀論，“更高級”的存在，如何定義生命，有機與無機是否構成生命的界限，漫長的時間之後是什麼？可以講述愛情故事，捕捉整個太陽的能量，重演四因子的編碼，曆經億萬次的模拟，再次遇見你後與你共度過去。
劇中幾次出現miss future
S2E5 Maddie身處MIST還原的虛拟卧室中反倒産生了落寞感，
MIST：I can't miss a world I was never really a part of.
Maddie：I guess. Though, I don't know. I sometimes get nostalgia for time periods I never lived in.
MIST：But someone like you could have lived in those times. I never could. So, I just spend my time missing the future.
Maddie：Missing the future?
MIST：I have the neural algorithm for nostalgia, but I can't execute it in context. Instead, it gets compounded with the conditionals for loneliness. I long for a reality where there are others like me, who don't think so slowly.
S2E6 Caspian決心掃描上傳後，Maddie憶起與MIST的談話講到：She talked about feeling alone and missing the future. I think I'm missing our future.
S2E8被SafeSurf侵蝕的Caspian彌留之際喃喃說出：One hundred, seventeen thousand, six hundred, forty-nine years. Caspian is here. Maddie is there. She will not miss her future.
